What this website is about

As my previous post said this blog is for both my family history research and also to share photos of places and events we will be going to.

I do not want to do a conventional family history ie. a linear family tree with just parents, grandparents etc but rather concentrating on various people and situations connected with my family. For example, one of the first I want to look at is why did my maternal grandmother’s family move from Suffolk in the 1820s and settle in Middleton, Lancashire by the 1890s. Others are centred around the more interesting families and stories I have come across during my research.

As said in my previous blog, researching family history often takes me to the places where they lived and the churches they attended and the graveyards they are buried in so I want to look at the areas my family lived, the streets where they lived, the social conditions and how they changed over time, where they worked and who their neighbours were. Also about the churches they attended and the graveyards in which they are buried. For example, a lot of my family, both maternal and paternal are attended All Saints church, Rhodes, Middleton and are buried in the graveyard there. Also I would also like to look at other people buried there and find out information about them.

In my photo section, I will be posting photos of places we go to and events we may attend. For example, we are going to Beadnell, Northumberland in the next few weeks and I hope to post about our holiday there.

I hope this blog will be interesting and will contain information which may be of help to other people researching their family history.

Any mention of living people will be marked as private unless I have their permission to name them.
