Boulmer, Northumberland

Boulmer (pronouced Boomer) is a small fishing village just down the coast from Beadnell and about 6 miles from Alnwick. It has a lovely sweeping sandy bay and was very peaceful when we went there. The village has no harbour and its fishing boats, which are traditional blue cobbles, are pulled ashore or moored in the sea. The main fishing is for crabs, lobster and sea salmon. There is a private lifeboat and station which was founded by the locals after the RNLI withdrew the service.

The village consists of some fishermen’s cottages and a pub, the Fishing Boat Inn. Your Northumberland Guide gives more information on Boulmer and the area.
